AMSTERDAM – Hero Brinkman wants,as an independent member of parliament, again become involved in the Caribbean parts of the kingdom. He said that Sunday morning in the television programme “Eva Jinek on Sunday”. In the past, the sharp tone of the former Freedom Party member several times put political relationship with the islands under pressure.
Last month Brinkman left the PVV. He was thwarted in his attempts to make the PVV democratic and is of the opinion that the party alienates groups of people. Immediate reason for stepping out was his criticism of the so-called “Poland Hotline” of the party.
Brinkman has signed up for the committee Kingdom Relations of the Parliament. After the 2010 elections, he had to give that portfolio to a PVV colleague, but now he wants to fight “corruption and nepotism” again on the islands to denounce these practices.
A few years ago Brinkman pointed his arrows frequently at the former Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. For instance, he suggested in 2008 to put the West Indies for sale on eBay. A statement he later withdrew in Curacao, because it would be counter productive for attracting voters.
He also referred to the islands’ for being a corrupt crooks nest and called a certain Aruban minister a “liar and a coward”. His comments caused a lot of uproar in the islands.
