Overall in the Dutch Caribbean were residing per January 1st, 2012 almost 22.000 persons, a growth of 4.5%. On Bonaire there are 1533 who immigrated while 848 have departed. The greatest part, 34 percent, comes from The Netherlands. Other countries where relatively many persons come from are the United States (16%), Canada (12%) and Curacao (10%). The departed persons have departed mainly to The Netherlands (44%) and the Curacao (22%).
On Bonaire are living 16541, on St. Eustatius 3791 and on Saba 1971, in comparison with 2011 for St. Eustatius a growth of 3%, for Saba 7, 5% and for Bonaire 4, 5 percent. The growth of the population in the Dutch Caribbean is comparable with that in the period 2005 – 2010, the growth was therefore more moderate.
The growth of 2011 results mainly from immigration. The total migration (Immigration – Emigration) accounts for 92 percent of the Dutch Caribbean population growth.

To Saba 409 persons have migrated of which 26 percent from The Netherlands, 15 percent from the United States. From the departed persons (40%) percent have gone to Canada, The Netherlands (20%) and the United Sates (19%).
From the 297 immigrants on St. Eustatius 26 percent comes from The Netherlands, 15 percent from the United States and 11 percent from St. Maarten while of the departed person the biggest part (42%) has gone to The Netherlands. Also, there are relatively many persons who have departed to the United States (15%) and Curacao (10%).
Origin of the population
CBS has also provided statistics about the country of Origin of the citizens on Saba in 2011. This shows that Saba has a true multi-cultural environment. Only 50% of the residents originates from one of the islands of the former Nederlandse Antillen. Within this group, it was not identified what the percentage is of the persons that have Saban ancestors. Only 3% of the citizens originate from the European Netherlands.
